Telangiectasias, also known as spider veins or thread veins, are small, dilated blood vessels that can appear near the surface of the skin or mucous membranes. Visible veins are common as we age; and although they do not always correlate with age and poor health, most people don’t want to have these unsightly lesions.
Sclerotherapy (injecting a substance into the vein so it collapses and closes) has been around for more than 100 years.
It requires multiple injections and the process can be time consuming and painful.
Complications such as necrosis, hyperpigmentation, and in rare cases deep venous thrombosis can occur.
